This morning I went in to Silas' room at 7:30 to wake him up for school. Today, I found him completely dressed and reading his Bible in bed. It just doesn't get any better than that! Thank you, Jesus!
I do pray that these tender years would lay a strong foundation of faith for him. I pray that Jesus would draw him into a genuine relationship with him and that Silas would live a victorious and abundant life for all the days ordained for him!
I love this little boy and am so proud of the young man he is becoming!!

Samuel is ONE!!
samuel james
blessing number three
blue eyes
precious smile
ornery, like your brothers
how can you be willful already?
i'd like to apologize again for your december birthday
i can't believe already a family member stiffed you on a gift
(not that you need more junk)
you explore and play on your own
and try to keep up with your brothers
you give great hugs
i love you
Silas' room - in progress
I am motivated to get organized lately. We moved the boys rooms around several months ago: Samuel into Josiah's old room, Josiah into Silas' old room, Silas into the guest room. Poor Silas has gotten the leftovers at this point. We finally got his bed ordered and then when it came it quickly broke while Steve was putting it together. They sent another piece, but we had to wait until it came and then Steve was so busy with work that it wasn't until Christmas Eve that he could work on it and he didn't have enough time to finish because we were expected out at my parent's house for lunch, which didn't take place at the time we were expected to be there, but that's another grumble that I should forget.
So now I really want to work on Silas' room. He has been so sweet lately and I am really pleased with the little boy he is becoming. Hopefully, I'll be posting a picture of his sweet smile in his new room very soon!
Whew! Glad that's over!
Oh, my! This has been such a busy holiday season!! I'm so glad that it's over! It's been a bit painful at times, so i haven't stopped for much reflection, and now that it's a new year, reflection just seems required, so here goes...
My schedule has been so full that I have only had time to fully attend to the task before me and then quickly shift gears once it was complete. Josiah turned 3, and then I went to Seattle for a long weekend to visit my bestest friend, and then it was Thanksgiving. The following weekend was the company Christmas party that I planned, and then I had a free weekend before we jumped into Samuel's first birthday celebration (which deserves a separate post - stay tuned!), and then it was Christmas!
Steve went on service the day after Christmas which basically meant I was on my own for the next 7 days, including New year's Eve and New Year's Day and today was his first day off, and therefore, my first day to have some real downtime. I spent half the day in bed, feeling lousy, not sick physically as much as emotionally. Steve very sweetly took Josiah out for a special treat while i recovered, and after praying with me, I did begin to feel a bit better.
I didn't even mention that I took on another huge project at work that required going into the dealerships for a couple of days worth of meetings, not to mention countless phone calls from home, or from the car, or the grocery store, or wherever else I happen to be. I'm blessed to get to be home full time as well as work a little, but sometimes it is too much.
Gift-giving had it's highs and lows once again this year. I felt like I did a great job on all the kids. My boys were happy and the cousins seemed content. But I felt like I blew it once again for my parents. It is just so hard to buy for them! I wrestled with feeling that I had disappointed them for hours after leaving our gift giving time. I think this is something I've inherited from my mom. I've tried to talk to her about it on a couple of occasions, but it hasn't gone anywhere just yet. So many unresolved conversations. I won't go there.
If I could keep it within our little family, I think I would love Christmas. Our morning was so lovely. And we do love our extended family and enjoy most of the time we are together, but I'm just struggling with several things that make our time together less than perfect and so it really does cast a soggy shadow on the blessing of the day. And then I feel selfish and unChristian for wanting to be alone with my boys. Every year there's always something. Will it ever be ideal? Some day, my boys will be teenagers, with pimples and cracking voices. What will Christmas morning be like then? These really are the best of days, and I need to cherish them for what they are and be thankful that I have family who wants to be around and involved for the holidays, even if it isn't perfect.
